What If....................by Lisa Gorman
What If....................by Lisa Gorman
What if you didn’t put so much pressure on yourself…
What if you made different choices…
What if you said No more often…
We ask ourselves these questions all the time but don’t actually answer them. Life can be hard, we get so many things thrown at us from all angles, it can be busy and stressful, especially now in the midst of winter, the nights are dark, the days can be yuck. All the bright lights of Christmas have been put away, the jovial atmosphere has changed, the smiles and good wishes have stopped. But why? Well simply because we put so much pressure on ourselves whether it is to be a good employee, a good parent, making sure we pay our bills on time, thinking we have weight to lose, we have to paint a smile on our faces all the blooming time… well listen my friends… STOP!
When you put so much pressure on yourself you simply make yourself ill… you end up exhausted, grouchy, an absolute pain in the proverbial. So why do we do it to ourselves? What would life be like if we put ourselves first more, if we stopped saying yes to things when we really wanted to say no, if we made more time to eat proper food, took the time to sit down and digest our food instead of grabbing a bite on the run?
January is known as the worst month of the year, well I disagree and not only because my birthday is in January but because why does a month have to be bad? Why do we blame something out of our control? We even have “Blue Monday” in January, yes there is the come down from all of the partying over the festive season, making new year resolutions the “New Year New Me” nonsense which usually last a couple of weeks at the most. Here we go again adding more pressure to ourselves. We don’t need a new year to make changes we just need the right mindset.
Mindset is not some hippy, voodoo crap it is really important, not working on your mindset and how you view situations can determine how your day and indeed your life is going to go. Having a bleak, poor me, negative Nelly mindset, thinking the worst of everything, looking at the future and automatically thinking it’s going to be absolutely crap will lead to it being ABSOLUTELY CRAP! I know, I know with all the goings on at the moment with the pandemic it is a lot to take on board, all the theories, the media circus and your own personal beliefs can lead to living life a certain way, living in fear, living but not really living! If you look at it in a negative way you will live your life in a negative state.
Flip that around, look at the positives, yes the world stood still for a time, we stayed home, we got to decompress (for a short period) Now you can continue to live in this way, enjoying the moment or seizing the day as they say, taking time to do what makes you happy, read that book, drink that cocktail, climb that mountain whatever it is that makes you happy and I mean really happy DO IT! If we have learnt nothing else than to live your life while you can then what is the alternative… Some frenzied, half assed life half lived.. NO THANKS!
As the song from Trainspotting says – Choose Life, Choose A Family, Choose Your Friends, Choose Your Future
If all you get from this blog is this – It is your life, your choice, you decide whether you say yes or no, you decide to be happy or to be miserable. Then I may have made a difference to at least one person and that makes me happy.
What if…. I made a decision to be happy, to live life on my terms, imagine how wonderful that would be…
Live your most vibrant life, full of happiness with an added touch of sass.
